Welcome to j. DIxon Art & Design
The past two years have brought considerable challenges personally, in my community and to the world. As an artist, I am fortunate to have been given opportunities to work with amazing people in the Greater Columbus area to allow art to better the communities where I live and work and also address community challenges. At the end of a day, when I step back and look at what I've created, personal success feels like I have been authentic, original and have enjoyed the experience of painting. When my work is experienced by others, I feel successful in sharing an emotional experience with them. As I continue to grow as an artist I am hopeful and look forward to other new and exciting challenges to bring my passion and my art to my community.

'I spend a considerable amount of time trying to decide which way is up for my paintings!'
Painting started as a therapeutic way to express myself in non verbal ways. With no formal training, I began by observing the techniques and skills of others. Quickly learning how to understand the qualities of the paints I worked with; how it moved, merged, grew...often taking on a life of its own. Also how I could become one with the paint; the colors to create and express myself in ways I never thought possible.
Working primarily with acrylic paints and mediums, brushes and knives; I have discovered so many new and different tools, techniques, and types of media to express myself through.
In a world where even the most basic human connections have been challenging over the past couple of years; it is my desire to paint in ways that will evoke emotion and get people to just stop, if even for a second, appreciate life and make connections.
Born in Michigan, I've lived in New York, Tennessee, Connecticut, Alabama, Illinois, and now call Ohio home.
I'm honored that my work can be found in private collections throughout the United States.
Thank you to the Greater Columbus Arts Council! Support through the COVID-19 Emergency Support for Artists Fund and a 2021 Individual Artist Grant award has allowed me to continue to paint during this unique time in our history.
