I'm Joe Dixon
When the paint hits the brush and the brush fits in my hand just right and every
stroke puts color just as I want it to land...those are the days I know I am really
putting 'me' into the work and out there into the world.
I don't consider the story of a painting ever done. I may be done with the paints
and brush strokes, but each time it is seem by a new person the story of that painting comes alive again.
At the end of the day, the feeling of serenity that comes with being able to let go; able to guide the paint, not control it, is one I never want to lose.
'I spend a considerable amount of time trying to decide which way is up for my paintings!'
A great deal of my inspiration comes from finding beauty and symmetry in a chaotic world. Natural patterns, geometry and layers upon layers of color.
I admire the great works of Matisse, Picasso, Warhol, Basquiat, De Kooning as well as street artists, muralists and other less than mainstream talents.
Born in Michigan, I've lived in New York, Tennessee, Connecticut, Alabama, Illinois, and now call Ohio home.
I'm honored that my work can be found in private collections throughout the United States.
Thank you to the Greater Columbus Arts Council. Support through the COVID-19 Emergency Support for Artists Fund has allowed me to continue to paint during this unique time in our history.
